My Story...

I've had many people ask me why I started writing, and there isn't really one clear answer. For starters, my mother had wanted to be a writer, I think. I recall her editing a friend's book once. Her life got busy, and circumstance was what it was, and she never got the chance to publish anything before she passed away at forty-eight years old. I didn't want that to happen to me!

I've always loved reading, and am a quotaholic! I absolutely love words :) Some of my favorite authors include Edgar Allen Poe, William Shakespeare, Stephen King, Stephenie Meyer, Suzanne Collins, E.L. James, Colleen Hoover, Shel Silverstein, and Dr. Seuss...

I've always been intrigued, when reading, by the "what if's?" What if Bella had chosen Jacob? What if Lestat hadn't heard that rock band rehearsing? What if Lily's father hadn't caught her with Atlas? What if the role was reversed, and Anastasia had been the wealthy CEO with relationship issues persuing a timid Christian?

I was intrigued by the hype over the Fifty Shades series and the subsequent sexual empowerment of so many women. Suddenly, women were talking more openly about their sexuality, it seemed. As a woman who has always had a strong sense of sexuality, this whole "mommy porn" movement was super exciting! I knew how much my friends and I enjoyed reading hot steamy romance novels, so I knew I needed to be part of it...

I suddenly realized that, even if it was only in my own head, I've been writing in some form or another for my whole life. I've written stories, poetry, song lyrics over the years, as a way to release stress, get out feelings, and deal with life. When I first began writing the Damsel series, my husband had recently lost his job and was fighting depression. I was trying hard to be the rock he needed but felt lonely much of the time. Damsel became a free vacation from my life. It became a way for me to escape in a healthy way.

I never dreamed how much I would learn about myself in the process. I had the opportunity to examine my feelings, test my strength, heal old wounds, and explore new fantasies. Writing Damsel has been, to date, the most cathartic experience of my life. My goal was to write a story my girlfriends and I would enjoy reading, but what I gained was so much more!

I look forward to sharing more stories with you...
